This is really the only option I know of that allow you to cook rice easily and safely, no nonstick BS. I have had this about 6 months and use it alot. Brown Rice comes out very well, def have to wash it 4 times at least, best to soak for awhile, sometimes I will let it soak from morn until eve, then cook it, let it stay on warm cycle. I also add a pinch of salt and olive oil. This can be used to make stews/soups.

Thermos Thermal Cooker RPC-4500 4.5L Thermo Pot Review

I purchased this for travel days and potlucks. I did not realize how much I would use it for everyday meals and such. It is much safer than an electric slow cooker and produces far superior results with only a small learning curve.

This is much better constructed than the cheaper foam filled models. I expect many years of service from this high quality setup.

It is quite easy to use.
-Place the ingredients being cooked into the SS inner cook. pot .
-Bring it up to temp and hold for 10 mins or so.
-Place the SS lid on the inner cook pot.
-Insert the SS Cook pot into the thermal outer pot.
The dish will finish cooking and stay hot for 8hrs.

The vegetables maintain their shape, color and flavor. They are not cooked to a colorless,flavorless mush which is often what a conventional slow cooker does.

I have foundaccessories purchased for the 4.5L cooker from the thermalcookwaredotcom website to be a terrific setup. The cooker itself is too heavy to be shipped from Australia to be cost effective, but the accessories are not. I haven't found another place that offers all the terrific accessories to enhance the functionality of the cooker. This site is also a great place to obtain recipes for the thermal cooker. Another good site for those that are new to this method of cooking is thermalcookerdotwordpressdotcom. Both have recipes and techniques for main dishes, desserts, breads, drinks, etc in the thermal cooker.

The accessories offered at thermalcookwaredotcom make the cooker much more versatile. The bain marie insert allows 2 items to be cooked separately at the same time. The steamer insert allows vegetables to be steamed while a main dish is cooking in the larger pot.The lidded SS loaf and round tin allow quick breads and cakes to be "baked " even while I sleep. If you have never tried steamed quick breads, you are in for a real treat. The breads and cakes come out moist and tender. For cakes I halve the recipe and pour the single layer batter into the round tin and "bake". I then slice it in half crosswise after it is cooled and frost. Viola! A perfect sized two layer cake for one to two people. I also ordered the racks to place my tins on to prevent them from becoming totally immersed in the boiling water. Water should not enter the tins. it should only come about half way up the side.

The thermal cooker can also be used to keep foods cold on hot days at picnics, potluck and the like. It also serves double duty as an ice bucket.

Don't forget to try hot drinks such as mulled wine, and hot cocoa in the thermal cooker. Can also be used to keep drinks such as lemonade,punch, etc. cold during hot weather.

I would recommend the 4.5 litre thermal cooker for 1-4 people. The Thermos Thermal Cooker RPC-6000W 2x3L Thermo Pot with two 3l inner potsand a single 6l inner pot would provide optimal cooking abilities for 4 or more.

BTW- the Thermos/Shuttle Chef thermalcooker works on induction cooktops.

6-Cup Rice Cooker Review

The construction of this rice cooker is somewhat questionable. Be careful when using this item, sometimes it stays on warm instead of setting to cook. Great for white rice, not so much for brown rice. Would not leave this product unattended as rice does need to be stirred or you will end up with burned rice on the bottom of the metal pot.

I like it for easily cooking small amounts of white rice. Unfortunately, I can get better results using the microwave or my old steamer for something more delicate like sushi rice.

Proctor-Silex Rice Cooker and Steamer Review

I have had this model for just over a year and it spontaneously died. This is the second rice maker to die after a short time, so the failure is the reason for 2 stars. While it WAS working, it cooked rice just fine. Ours came with a veggie steamer which worked well, just remember to put a little less water for the rice if you make rice along side it as the veggies will add water to the rice.

Aside from the failure this was a good rice maker, if it hadn't failed I'd have rated it 4 stars, because sometimes the cooker would switch spontaneously to warm mode before finishing cooking the rice.

Panasonic SR-G06G 3.3 Cup Rice Cooker/Steamer Review

Well, as a guy I'm not much for kitchen gadgets, but I do like rice and seared tuna. This little rice cooker makes a perfect one or two cups of medium grain rice every time. Just put some seared tuna from the HyVee on top of that and I have a great dinner. One hint, don't sweat the clean up. Just let the aluminium pan soak with water in it, the rice at the bottom loosens up and it wipe right out. Don't scour or scrape or you ruin the anodized finish on the pan, I have an inexpensive rice paddle from a girl friend....Oh, I've found that the water level is a little low on the pan measure, but I don't presoak my rice the way some folks do, so I need the 2/1 water rice ratio....

KitchenAid Slow Cookers Review

After my experience, I looked up KitchenAid's website. There they have a forum and a special thread for those who have had their crocks crack. Some people are on their 3rd replacement and the crocks are cracking in the same place every time.

MY REVIEW:
I bought this KitchenAid slow cooker in black and I really had to talk myself into buying it because it was so expensive. I kept telling myself you get what you pay for. Well, tonight I want to cry because I had just started a pork roast to cook overnight. After leaving the kitchen, my husband and I both heard a loud pop. I went back and found my slow cooker leaking liquid all over the place. I took out the crock, turned it upside-down and found a winding crack all along the bottom.

I've only owned my KitchenAid slow cooker for about 2 weeks and the crack occurred during the third time I used it. At this point I don't know if I want a replacement slow cooker directly from KitchenAid or whether I want to return the slow cooker to Amazon for a refund. If I got a replacement, I would be nervous to leave it on overnight or when I leave home, which is the whole benefit of having a slow cooker. Worrying about your slow cooker that has a retail price of $150 doesn't seem like a very good value to me.

I don't know why there are no reviews since this model should already be around for a while. We bought one from a local store last August. One week ago it suddenly stopped working with no reason. The power cord did easily come loose and needed to be replugged into the cooker from the beginning of the usage. Now we need to pack this heavy baby and send it to the nearest service center, at our own cost. And I became the unfortunate guy who need a backup rice cooker all the time.

I owned this rice cooker for less then 4 hrs. brought it home. got excited. On the first use, it started smoking. i unplugged it. I had to throw the rice away. the smoking was a burnt electrical smell. I am not a fan of Elite anymore i will not buy anything they make. Hawkins Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker Review

Indian cooking becomes ridiculously easy with a pressure cooker - especially if you are planning on cooking lentils or beans. Not only do you save time, you also retain nutrients which can otherwise be destroyed when exposed to high heat for long periods of time.

Safety is virtually guaranteed with Hawkins' foolproof design - if the lid is not closed properly, the cooker just won't attain full pressure and so won't become dangerous; if there is even a little pressure remaining, the lid just won't be forced open. And if - this happened to me once - you put in too little water by mistake and the cooker boils dry, you are still okay thanks to a safety valve ingeniously placed just under the bar on the lid - so that when it opens up, the heat gets deflected away from you.

I have only used aluminum cookers, but the stainless steel ones are great too - if a little more expensive. Worth it if you want to avoid stains that can sometimes be a problem with aluminum cookers. I have three cookers in 2, 3.5 and 4.5 litre sizes. 2L is ideal if you're living alone and the 3.5 is just right for a two person family. I use the 4.5 when I cook for guests. I will still buy the 5L because it really is the most convenient size for an average family.

My only grouse with buying these cookers online is that you don't get accessories or replacement parts as easily as you can in Indian stores. After I blew out the safety valve in my 2L, I'm waiting for my next trip to India to get the lid fixed. Also, the 5L (and above) sizes become much more useful when you can use them with accessories like inserts - for multilevel cooking inside the cooker (cook two dishes in one go) and steamers - (for rice cakes etc.)

Bottom line - if you are planning on cooking Indian dishes, invest in a pressure cooker. Its versatile enough to cook pulses, vegetables and meats and will last you a lifetime!

Be advised that this review is for the 2005 model of the Fujitronic FR-803.Since then, they have manufactured a cheaper version.The current version is all plastic and flimsy.The 2005 version featured in this review is much sturdier and made of polymers like a Sanyo or Zorjirushi.I cannot guarantee the value or performance of the newer model.

I just received my Fujitronic FR-803 4 cup rice cooker.This is the second rice cooker that I have owned.The first one that I bought was a Salton 3 cup rice cooker.It was horrible.I used it once, and then never again.As I start to lead a healthier life style, I incorporated brown rice into my diet.I would always cook it in a pot, and often times, I would end up burning it, or not putting in enough water, or something.Needless to say, I did not have a consistent batch of rice.

In comes the Fujitronic FR-803.Now, I did quite a bit of research before bying this rice cookers.I went to several websites as well as speaking to people that I know that have rice cookers.Zojirushi is by far the most well known rice cooker manufacturer in the "Asian" world.But, after pricing several of their models, I was a little reluctant to spend upwards of $100 for a rice cooker.So, we have Fujitronic.As you see with this survey, there is not a lot of reviews of it.However, from reading the product description, I see that it appears ot have all of the necessary features that Zojirushi has, at half of the price.So I bought it.

Now I have only used it a couple of times, and I have only used it to make brown rice (basmati), but let me tell you that this machine is AWESOME!!!A consistent and perfect batch each time.And clean up is a snap (rinsing 4 pieces).I have read many reviews of other rice cookers where people are talking about the rice liquids overflowing, and rice coming out burned.Not with this machine.This is due to a strategically placed steam vent, and a splater overflow recepticle.After my first batch, I finally knew how rice is supposed to be.If you are in the market for a rice cooker, I URGE you to consider the Fujitronic models.If all of the other producsts are as good as the FR-803, then it is by far the best under appreciated manufacturer out there.

Sunpentown SC-10 22-Pound Rice Dispenser Review

I bought this rice dispenser because I go through a lot of rice...obviously.About a 20 lb. bag a month on average.Which, if you're Asian, is enough to feed one person.My mother has something similar in her household, but it holds 50 lbs.

So if you're a family of semi-casual rice eaters or a regular rice eater in a household of one, this might be the perfect sized dispenser for you to ensure you have an easy way of dispensing rice without letting it sit so long it becomes stale.

The plastic box is fairly sturdy and is of a slim enough design that I've been able to tuck it away in a small corner.While the openings aren't triple sealed...it's been enough to deter household critters since I haven't noticed anything unsavory in my rice in the year that I've owned this dispenser.The top is easy to load, the see through window lets you know when it's time to refill, and the 22 lbs capacity allows you to refill with a 20 lb. bag (which most rice can be found in) without totally running out.

The dispenser dispenses a perfect cup, but it's perfect by rice cooker standards.I've found that a push of this dispenser releases just enough rice to fill a "standard" rice cup found in most Asian rice cookers...which just happen to be smaller than the typical American one cup serving size.Great for me since I have a Zojurishi rice cooker and don't feel like fiddling with the measuring cup that came with the cooker, but maybe not great for those who are expecting your typical amount.

Sunpentown SC-1631 3-Cup Rice Cooker Review

I received this as a belated Christmas present from my sister as my Oster rice cooker had just died.I was thrilled when I opened the box as it is a very pretty cooker that was compact and the perfect size for me (3 cups). It is a basic enclosed rice cooker with a cook/warm one switch operation. I cooked a batch of rice that needed some tweaking with the amount of water.I did the tweaking and the second batch came out wonderful--except that the cooker died when it switched to the warm position!!The lights went off and never came back on!!Boy was I disappointed!!!

However, I called Sunpentown's customer service and explained it to them.They looked up the receipt and immediately told me that I will be sent a replacement and a shipping label to send back the defective unit.They were very courteous and professional.If they follow through on this, I will absolutely buy more of their products!!I will post if they do not.....I am sure this was probably just a bad unit and look forward to getting a new one!

UPDATE:I am thrilled to report that Sunpentown did exactly as they promised in less than a week's time.The new replacement cooker seems to be working well this time.I am very impressed with their customer service!

This is a cute little three cup enclosed cooker that has a cook/warm switch.To turn it off you unplug it; very basic but very effective.The cord is retractable.It is a small unit that is easily stored, but is so pretty you may want to leave it out! It has a very understated but colorful floral pattern on it.The unitseems to cook white and brown speciality rices very well; I have no complaints.There is minimal clean up;a condensation cup is located on the back and no removable parts on the underneath side of the lid.The pan is nonstick and seems well made.

I am pleased with the unit and with Sunpentown.I will buy more of their products in the future.

Sunpentown SC-12 26-Pound Rice Dispenser Review

My main intention for this purchase was a result of an infestation of weevils in my existing rice container (steel trash can) even though I've used it for over 10 years without any issues.I wanted a more bugproof enclosure for storing rice.

The product performed poorly. The top lid feels cheap and does not close airtight.There are no seals or latches, it simply rests on top.My $4 IKEA candy jar has a better seal.The 150g dispenser is not accurate.It can be off by as much as 1/3 a cup and depends on how long I hold the button down. Very disappointing.

The photo here is inaccurate as it is a Very off white colored, reminscent of 80's style appliances and reminds me of white products that have yellowed from time and sun exposure.The dispensing button is loose and rattles in place.The receiver cup sticks to rice even after being washed and dried.

It will do as advertised, hold (I dumped a full 25 lb bag in) and dispense rice but unless you have a "rice bug" problem, there's no reason to trouble yourself with this inaccurate, rather clumsy dispenser or any dispenser when any plastic container will do.

Should you decide to try it out anyway and get that email from Air & Water about a survey for $25 off your next order, you'll find out after you fill it out that it only applies to $200+ purchase.

I have looked for a rice cooker that is made of clay and doesn't have ANY coating on. I also would like having a rice cooker could do more jobs rather than just cooking regular rice. This is the exact one I found.

Sanyo ECJ-E35S 3.5-Cup Micro-Computerized Rice Cooker/Steamer Review

This was a Christmas present to myself as I have been wanting a micom rice cooker for some time now.I chose this one because of the price, the 3 cup size, the Sanyo reputation, and the features.And a very wise choice it was!!My first impression as I pulled it out of the box was that it was extremely attractive and modern looking; the web site picture does not do it justice.The body is white with stainless steel accents in a very up-to-date style.It is small and easily tucked away if need be, the cord is retractable.The buttons are large and easy to read and access.The menu features a setting for white, brown, porridge, quick cook and a Korean dish called Dol sot bi bim bab.The instruction book is easy to follow, although you really almost would not need it as the controls are very self-explanatory.Included in the guide are some simple recipes, including one for the dol sot bi bim bab.

The main stand out for this model is a bowl that is built like a tank and is titanium nonstick.It is 5 mm. thick--by far the thickest I have seen on any micom rice cooker.It distributes the heat consistently all around the circumference of the bowl.Another plus is that it has separate markings for brown and sweet rice, showing the necessary higher water level needed for those types of rice.Since I mainly cook brown rice, the separate menu selection for brown and separate bowl markings for brown win this cooker very high marks with me.The bowl is a three cup size, but two cups fill it very full.This is the perfect size for a single person or maybe a couple, but a larger group might want to go up to the 5 cup size.(I might get one of those myself....I like this cooker that much!)I believe the 5 cup also has a steam and slow cook function that the smaller unit does not have.Not a big deal for me but for some might be a selling point.

I have cooked brown, japanese white, jasmine, brown basamati, and even Uncle Ben in this and basically had perfect rice each time.I have also used the timer to have it ready when I come home from work!My only gripe is that it takes 1 1/2 hours to cook brown rice, so if I don't use the timer, I have to wait on it.However, the results ARE worth the wait.

Oh, a couple quirks.The condensation cup is on the top of the cooker--empty it each time, or else if you move the unit, it could spash water down the front of it.I learned the hard way.Also, the clock will read 0.00 at noon instead of 12:00--the 0.00 does NOT mean the rice is ready if you happen to be cooking around that time.Also learned the hard way.Clean up is simple, the pieces come off and reassemble without any brain work.More work than a traditional glass lid cooker perhaps, but again, worth it.

Amazon seemed to have the best price and included free shipping for this model Wal-mart and Best Buy also carry it, but they were not in stock (in my area anyway) and had to be ordered--and you pay shipping.The unit has a one year warranty.It is made in China.

In short, this is a very attractive, well-built, well-designed little unit that turns out perfect rice at an incredible price.If you have any thoughts about getting a micom rice cooker, get this one!!

Oster 5711 Mechanical Food Steamer Review

This food steamer works extremely fast.Within 10 minutes of turning it on, you will have perfectly steamed broccoli, asparagus, etc.I love the fact that there is no need to watch over it (as you would have to if you were using a pan of boiling water with a steamer top) and that the machine keeps the food warm for you after it has finished cooking until you are ready to use it.In addition, it includes two tiered steaming bowls (for joint cooking of items that need to be kept separate or that have two different cooking times) as well as a separate rice cooker. It really makes it easier to eat your veggies.

VitaClay VM7900-6 Smart 6-Cup Programmable Multi-Cooker Review

I could not be more pleased with the VitaClay rice cooker! It is everything I hoped it would be.

I probably invested about $1000 of my time researching rice cookers before making this purchase. I was very concerned about the VitaClay due to prior reviews I read here. I called VitaClay's manufacturer twice and I also did research at a lot of other sites. Ultimately, I decided to take a chance on the VitaClay, but I also planned to order a purely stainless steel model too.

However, now that I have used the VitaClay for a week (cooking with it every day), I know this is the rice cooker for me. I do not need to look any further.

It cooks perfect brown rice. I have also cooked rice + mung dal in it many times. The food doesn't stick to the clay pot. The flavors are great.

I am satisfied that the quality of the clay pot is good. It passes California's tough regulations. These days I hesitate to purchase anything from China, but I'm comfortable that this product is safe.

The rice cooker does not give off any unusual smells. My concerns about potential toxic materials in the cooker have disappeared after inspecting and using it. The construction quality is very high. It is super easy to clean. The controls are easy to use. The design looks nice. I feel I got a lot of value for my money.
